Best Bedsheets for Winter in Pakistan: Khaddar vs Crystal Cotton

Winter nights in Lahore or Islamabad feel very different from winter in Karachi. Here is how khaddar, cotton and crystal cotton compare, what to pay, and how to layer your bed so you stay warm without buying a new set every year.

Best Bedsheets for Winter in Pakistan: Khaddar vs Crystal Cotton

From late October the temperature starts dropping across most of Pakistan, and the bedding that felt perfect in July suddenly feels thin and cold. The good news is that you do not need an expensive new bed set every winter. You need the right fabric and the right layers.

This guide compares the three fabrics Pakistani households actually buy for winter, gives honest price ranges, and shows how to build a warm bed that still looks good.

Quick answer

  • Very cold areas (Islamabad, Murree, Quetta, north Punjab, KPK): khaddar or flannel bedsheets, plus a razai or comforter.
  • Moderate winters (Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar plains): a good quality cotton or crystal cotton bedsheet with a comforter is enough, and it works all year.
  • Mild winters (Karachi, Hyderabad, coastal Sindh): your regular cotton or crystal cotton sheets are fine; just add a light quilt at night.

Khaddar: the traditional winter choice

Khaddar is a thicker, handloom-style cotton weave. Its weight is what makes it warm: more fabric means more trapped air between you and the cold. It is the classic winter bedsheet in Punjab and KPK for good reason, and it becomes softer every time you wash it.

The trade-offs: khaddar feels rough for the first few washes, takes longer to dry in December fog, and usually comes in muted or traditional prints rather than bright designs.

Crystal cotton in winter

Crystal cotton is a smooth, lightly lustrous weave that has become the most popular everyday bedsheet fabric in Pakistan. It is not a winter-only fabric, and that is exactly the point: one set works in both seasons, so you are not storing two wardrobes of bedding.

In winter, crystal cotton works best as the base layer under a comforter or razai. It feels smooth rather than cold to the touch, it does not cling like polyester, and the deep colours that suit winter rooms — maroon, navy, chocolate, emerald — print beautifully on it. Our crystal cotton bedsheet collection is king size with two pillow covers, and every design is Rs 2,399 with free delivery.

How to layer a warm bed

Warmth comes from layers, not from one thick sheet. Build the bed like this, from the mattress up:

  1. Mattress protector. A quilted protector adds a padded layer that stops cold from rising off the mattress, and it keeps the mattress clean. Ours doubles as a fitted printed sheet: see the quilted waterproof mattress protector.
  2. Bedsheet. Khaddar in very cold areas, crystal cotton or cotton elsewhere.
  3. Blanket or duvet. A light blanket between the sheet and the razai adds a lot of warmth for very little cost.
  4. Razai, comforter or duvet. The top layer traps everything underneath.

Two extra tricks that cost nothing: tuck the sides of the sheet firmly under the mattress so cold air cannot flow in, and keep a spare blanket folded at the foot of the bed for the coldest hours before dawn.

Winter colours that work

Darker, warmer shades make a room feel warmer, and they also hide the dust of a dry winter better than white. Popular winter choices in Pakistani bedrooms are:

Caring for winter bedding

  • Wash in lukewarm water, not hot: heat fades dark winter prints fastest.
  • Dry in direct sun if you can. In foggy weather, an extra spin cycle removes far more water than another hour on the line.
  • Wash thick khaddar separately. It holds a lot of water and can unbalance the machine with lighter items.
  • Air the razai or comforter in sunlight every few weeks to keep it fresh and dry.

How many sets do you need?

Two sets per bed is the practical minimum: one on the bed and one washed and ready. Three is comfortable in winter, because sheets take longer to dry. If you are buying for a guest room, pick a medium-tone print that hides marks and works in both seasons.

Frequently asked questions

Is khaddar better than cotton for winter?
Khaddar is warmer because it is thicker and heavier. Cotton and crystal cotton are more versatile because you can use them all year and add a blanket in winter. If you only buy one set, choose cotton or crystal cotton; if you live somewhere genuinely cold, add a khaddar set for December to February.

Can I use crystal cotton bedsheets in winter?
Yes. Crystal cotton is smooth rather than cold, and under a comforter it is warm enough for most of Pakistan. It is the most practical choice if you want one bedsheet set for the whole year.

What size bedsheet fits a standard king bed in Pakistan?
Most king sets are about 90 × 100 inches, which fits a 72 × 78 inch mattress with enough tuck. See our bedsheet size guide to measure your bed properly.

How much should a good winter bedsheet set cost?
Expect Rs 2,000 to 4,000 for a quality king set. Below Rs 1,500, fabric is usually thin polyester blend that pills within a season.

Do you deliver across Pakistan?
Yes. Khaash delivers free all over Pakistan with cash on delivery, usually in 3 to 5 working days.

A mattress that smells is holding moisture, and masking it with spray makes it worse. The fix is dull and effective: dry it out, draw the smell out, and keep it from coming back.
